As His Majesty, King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, was wishing, the Centre contributed to the development of a dialogue among different cultures and civilizations. Moreover, it encouraged and supported intellectual and cultural inventions at the national level.
In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful all praise is due to Allah for his great gift, represented in this edifice that became a beacon of science and light for students seeking knowledge and education. It also became a source for students and knowledge seekers, an important Centre for maintenance of Arab and Islamic civilization, and for acquaintance with the culture of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its civilized history.
The project idea started in 1995 by establishment of a library in the name of the Prince of the state, who was at that time, Sheikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, May Allah rest his soul. The idea had been referred to us. We started to implement it by developing schemes and designs of the project.
After completion of schemes, they were referred to the Cabinet that praised the idea. The Cabinet decided to make the building greater and wider than suggested in the scheme in order to provide greater services for all segments of Bahraini society. In sixth of March 1999, after the death of Sheikh Isa, it was agreed to mandate the famous engineer, Dr. Omar Al Farouk, to set engineering designs for the new building due to his great experience in the field of Islamic architecture. After engineer Omar Farouk presented sketches of the project, we referred them to His Majesty the King and his wise government. They were approved by them. The designs considered the civilized Bahraini architectural character that is in harmony with modern architecture. In February 2000, we held a press conference to announce initiation of the project.
In Wednesday, in the afternoon, corresponding to 26 December 2001, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Kingdom of Bahrain, had laid the cornerstone of Isa Cultural Centre, indicating the commencement of construction of the greatest cultural edifice in the modern history of the Kingdom of Bahrain. This day was immortalized in appreciation and acknowledgement of the role of His Highness Sheikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, May Allah rest him, in building civilization and advancement of Bahrain and to perpetuate his memory in this cultural sign, as he was a sign of generosity and a supporter of knowledge and science. After that, different committees were formed to follow up works of the project from different aspects; technically, executively and financially.
He laid down the cornerstone of the Centre as a precious gift from His Majesty to all citizens and inhabitants of the Kingdom of Bahrain to remain a sign of proudness in the precious homeland.
It is worth mentioning that in light of the reforming approach adopted by His Majesty, King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the transparency principle was adopted in the project of Isa Cultural Centre. It was the first project where bids were opened before the participating contractors and press and media persons.
In Thursday, corresponding to 18 December 2008, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the kingdom of Bahrain, had opened Isa Cultural Centre in a great and sublime celebration to make this edifice with its spaces a beacon of science and culture for all segments of the Bahraini society, and to make it a source of loyalty for Sheikh Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, May Allah rest his soul. We hope that Allah will help us and our brothers in the Board of Trustees and the BOD of the Centre to bear the responsibility assigned to us by the king, to elevate the Centre and to present all the good to this precious country, our prudent leaders and our loyal Bahraini people.
His Highness Shaikh Abdullah Bin Khaled Al Khalifa (RIP: 1922-2018)
